Fairview's defense kept Harpeth off the scoreboard Thursday night and scored a touchdown of its own.

The Yellow Jackets won 35-0 at Harpeth High School in Kingston Springs on Oct. 1, their second straight shutout after a 70-0 win over Sycamore the week before. Fairview is now 7-0, and 3-0 in 3A Region 6. Harpeth fell to 1-6.

The game was moved up a day, from Friday to Thursday. Storms were in the forecast for Friday night, and several other area games moved up too.

Defense sets the tone

Harpeth had scored in every game this season, putting up 33 points twice. Fairview held the Indians scoreless, and sophomore Emmet Sutton returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown.

Fairview finished with two interceptions, three sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss, according to statistics posted on MaxPreps. Senior Wyatt Langford had eight tackles, 3.5 for loss, and a sack. Senior Cole Neal also had eight tackles, freshman Rellan Langford had seven, and sophomore Taylor Kelley had five, 1.5 for loss. Sophomore Archer Oliphant and junior Hunter Nolen each had a sack.

It was Fairview's third shutout of the season, along with 34-0 over Glencliff and 70-0 over Sycamore. Through seven games, the Yellow Jackets have outscored opponents 268-36.

A sophomore-led ground game

Fairview ran for 250 yards on 29 carries, 8.6 yards a carry, and scored three times on the ground.

Sophomore Julius Carter led with 99 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Sophomore Daniel Sullivan needed only four carries to score twice and finished with 68 yards. Sophomore Trace McCoy added 31 yards on four carries.

Junior quarterback Isaac Burgos completed 9 of 14 passes for 112 yards, with a touchdown to senior John Barrick and no interceptions. Barrick caught two passes for 59 yards and returned two punts for 40 more. Senior Lincoln Kelley caught three passes for 42 yards, and freshman Landon Holland caught three for 18.

Senior Tristan Rogers made all five extra points, and Fairview finished with 367 yards of offense.

Up next

Fairview's next game is Friday, Oct. 16, at home against Camden Central, another region opponent. The Lions are 2-5 after a 44-32 win at Sycamore. The Yellow Jackets then finish the regular season on the road, at Cheatham County Central on Oct. 23 and at Waverly Central on Thursday, Oct. 29.

Harpeth plays next against 7-0 Huntingdon.
