The Fairviewian

Terms of use

Ordinary terms for an ordinary local newspaper website. Use it, save events, read the stories. Do not break it or impersonate anyone.

What this is

The Fairviewian is a local news and information site for Fairview, Tennessee. It publishes reporting, community activity, an events calendar, and urgent public notices. Using the site means you accept these terms.

Accounts

You may create an account to save events and follow places. Saving an event needs one, because the list lives on your account rather than in your browser. Use a real email address you control, keep your sign-in details to yourself, and do not create an account pretending to be someone else. You are responsible for what happens under your account. We may suspend or remove an account that is used to harass people, break the law, or attack the site.

Accuracy, and what we do not promise

We try to get things right. We cannot promise that we always will. Nothing on this site is a guarantee of anything. Event times move, meetings are rescheduled, and information gathered from public sources, official statements, and other outlets can be incomplete, superseded, or wrong by the time you read it.

Much of what we publish reports what somebody else (a government agency, a school, a police department, a court, a business) has said or released. Reporting an official statement is not the same as confirming it, and we do not adopt the truth of what we report others as saying.

Do not rely on this site for emergencies or safety decisions. Critical Updates about weather, closures, and hazards are published as a convenience and are not an official channel. For anything urgent, follow the National Weather Service, local emergency services, and the City of Fairview.

Nothing here is legal, financial, medical, or professional advice. Do not treat it as any of those.

Corrections

If you believe something here is wrong, tell us through the contact page and say which page and what you believe is inaccurate. We read every one of these.

What we do about it is our decision. That may mean correcting the page, adding to it, publishing a note, or leaving it as it stands. We do not promise a published correction notice, a particular outcome, a reply, or a timeframe. Asking is not an agreement that we were wrong, and we may keep an archived version of what was published.

Reporting on people, charges, and public matters

We report on public bodies, public meetings, incidents, and matters of local concern, including material drawn from law-enforcement and court sources. Where we report a charge or an allegation, it is an allegation. A charge is not a conviction, and nothing here should be read as a finding of guilt.

If a matter you are named in is later resolved, dismissed, expunged, or corrected, tell us and we will consider updating the record. As above, what we do about it is our decision.

Our work

Articles, photographs, and the design of this site belong to The Fairviewian or the people who made them. Quote us, link to us, and share our stories, that is the point. Do not republish whole articles elsewhere, or use our reporting to train a model or populate another site, without asking first.

Not everything here is ours. Some of what appears in the activity feed is an announcement, notice, or photograph that a business, school, city office, or community group published publicly, and it is shown here with the source named so a reader can go and see it for themselves. Those images and words belong to whoever made them, not to us. If something of yours is here and you would rather it was not, tell us and we will take it down.

Anything you send us

If you submit a tip, a photograph, an event, or a listing, you are telling us that it is yours to share or that you have permission to share it, that it is accurate as far as you know, and that publishing it will not infringe anyone's rights or invade anyone's privacy. You give us permission to publish it, edit it, and keep it in our archive, with credit where appropriate. You keep ownership of your own work.

We are not obliged to publish anything, and we may remove anything at any time. If what you send us causes a claim against us because it was not yours to send or was not what you said it was, you agree to cover the cost of dealing with that claim.

Other people's sites

We link to schools, businesses, government pages, and other sources. Those sites are not ours, and we are not responsible for what they publish or how they treat your information.

The directory, and paid placement

Entries in the business and organization directory are compiled from public information. Being listed in the directory is free.

A listing is for a real business, school, church, team, agency, or organization that actually operates in or serves Fairview. We do not list private individuals, and we may decline, edit, or remove any listing for any reason, including one we cannot verify, one that no longer trades, or one that turns out not to be genuine.

Some placements are or may become paid. Local Spotlight, featured listings, and similar promotional slots may be sold now or in the future. Anything paid for is marked as sponsored where it appears. Paying for a placement does not buy coverage, a listing position, or influence over what we report, and a free directory listing is not an endorsement of anybody.

What we are not responsible for

The site is provided as it is and as it happens to be available, with no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

To the fullest extent Tennessee law allows, The Fairviewian and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss, or for any lost profits, lost business, or lost data, arising from your use of this site or from anything published on it, including anything that turns out to be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date, and including decisions you or anyone else made in reliance on it.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited in total to one hundred United States dollars.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for anything that cannot be limited by law.

Where disputes are handled

These terms are governed by the law of the State of Tennessee. Any dispute arising from this site or these terms belongs in the state or federal courts serving Williamson County, Tennessee, and by using the site you agree to those courts hearing it.

Before filing anything, use our contact page and give us a real chance to sort it out. Most things can be.

Changes

These terms may change as the site grows. The date at the top will tell you when they last did. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.

Contact

Questions, corrections, or takedown requests go through our contact page, which sorts them by what they are. If you would rather write directly: editor@fairviewian.com.
