Fairview High School's volleyball team has had the best postseason in the program's history, according to the school, and it ended one win short of the state tournament.

A first regional win

The Lady Yellow Jackets beat Chester County 3-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in the Region 6AA tournament at Chester County. The school says it is the first regional volleyball match victory in Fairview High history. MaxPreps schedules from 2020 through 2025 show nothing that contradicts that: the 2024 and 2025 seasons each ended with a 3-2 loss to Lexington in mid-October. MaxPreps does not label region games, though, and The Fairviewian did not check earlier seasons.

The team then lost to Creek Wood in the region championship game that evening and finished as the region runner-up. Emerson Hanrahan and Sophia Buttrey were named to the region all-tournament team.

One win from state

Finishing second in the region sent Fairview to a sectional match, the school's first. On Thursday, Oct. 15, the Lady Jackets played at Valor Collegiate Prep in Nashville and lost 3-0.

Valor won the 2025 TSSAA Division I, Class AA state championship, according to a Tennessee legislative resolution honoring the team.

How the district tournament went

The run began in the district tournament. Fairview beat Sycamore 3-1 on Oct. 6, then lost to Creek Wood in the district championship game on Oct. 8.

The season in numbers

Fairview finished the regular season 7-3 in District 11-AA, second in the district, and 14-14 overall in MaxPreps' count, which includes tournament matches. Last season the team finished 21-13 and was also second in the district, but MaxPreps lists no postseason games for that year.

A milestone just out of reach

The most closely watched number this season belonged to senior Kennedi Black, an outside hitter and defensive specialist. MaxPreps lists 954 career kills for her, 46 short of 1,000. It shows 451 of them from last season, when she averaged 4.2 kills a set, and 64 so far this season at 3.4 a set. Adding up the season lines on her profile also puts her career digs at about 954, again 46 short of 1,000: she led the team this season with 49 digs, and had 489 last year.
