Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and most of Fairview's events come earlier in the week. Here is what's on, with each stop numbered on the map.

Wednesday, Oct. 28

1. Trunk or Treat at First Baptist Church of Fairview, 6 to 8 p.m., 7310 Overbey Road. The church's flyer promises more than 50 decorated trunks and food trucks, and asks families to skip scary costumes.

2. Fall Family Fun Chili Cook-Off at Meeting Place Church, 6:30 p.m., 920 Highway 96 North. Chili and sides, bounce houses, games and candy. The church says everyone is invited.

Friday, Oct. 30

3. Haunted Band Room and Festival at Fairview Middle School, 5 to 9 p.m., 7200 Cumberland Drive. The Fairview Music Department's fundraiser centers on a haunted maze, with carnival games, face painting, a photo booth, karaoke and a painted pumpkin contest. Student bands and orchestras play short Halloween sets starting at 6, and the Fairview High band closes at 7. Admission is $10, or $5 for performers and children 5 and under.

4. Fairview Elementary PTO Trunk or Treat, 6 to 7 p.m., 2640 Fairview Boulevard. Free, and open to all families, not only Fairview Elementary students.

Saturday, Oct. 31

5. Fairview High PTO Halloween 5K, Run for the Library, at the Fairview High School football field, 2595 Fairview Boulevard. Check-in is 7 to 8 a.m., and the race starts at 8:30. Costumes are encouraged, with a costume contest, candy stations and food trucks. Entry is $30 for adults and $15 for kids 12 and under, plus a sign-up fee, and the money goes to the school library's renovation. Register on RunSignup

The City of Fairview has not posted trick-or-treat hours for Saturday night.
