Fairview residents may have noticed a new company name appearing on trash bills and service information recently.

Fairview Trash has been purchased by Superior Disposal, a Middle Tennessee waste company that now handles the former Fairview Trash customer base.

For most residents, the change should be relatively minor from a day-to-day standpoint. Trash collection is continuing, and Superior says the Fairview Trash employees and drivers were retained as part of the transition.

The company also says existing Fairview Trash customers will keep their current rates.

The most immediate change is billing. Payments now go through Superior Disposal, and existing automatic-payment information did not transfer over.

That means customers who previously used autopay through Fairview Trash will need to set it up again once they receive a statement from Superior Disposal. Customers do not need to sign up for trash service again for collection to continue.

According to information published by Fairview Trash, existing customers can continue using their current 96-gallon trash carts.

The company also says the drivers and employees who previously worked for Fairview Trash are continuing with Superior Disposal, including many of the same routes they handled before the ownership change.

Superior Disposal is now the primary point of contact for service and billing questions.

The transition also gives Fairview customers access to services offered by Superior Disposal that were not previously part of the standard Fairview Trash operation. That includes curbside recycling, which is being offered every other week for an additional monthly fee.

Superior also offers services such as junk removal and backdoor trash collection.

So far, the companies have shared few details about the business side of the transaction. Fairview Trash's website describes the transition as joining forces with Superior Disposal and also references Superior purchasing the business.

The companies have not publicly disclosed the sale price, the date the deal was completed, or a detailed reason for the sale.

For residents who already used Fairview Trash, there is little that needs to be done immediately. Trash pickup is continuing, and customers should continue using their existing carts.

The main thing to watch for is a new statement from Superior Disposal. Anyone who previously had automatic payments set up with Fairview Trash will need to establish autopay again through the new billing system.

In short, Fairview Trash has changed ownership, but the trash service itself is intended to remain largely familiar to existing customers.
