An investigation is underway after Fairview police officers shot a person during an early-morning response on Brush Creek Road on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says Fairview Police officers were dispatched to the 7000 block of Brush Creek Road at around 3:30 a.m. in response to a possible domestic dispute.

According to preliminary information released by TBI, an individual at the scene entered a vehicle and drove in the direction of the officers.

Multiple Fairview police officers then fired toward the vehicle, striking the driver, according to the agency.

The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No law enforcement officers were injured.

The investigation is being handled by TBI at the request of 21st Judicial District Attorney General Stacey Edmonson.

TBI says its agents are working to determine the sequence of events leading up to the shooting by collecting evidence and conducting interviews.

Once that work is completed, the agency will provide its findings to the district attorney general for review.

TBI also emphasized that its role in an officer-involved shooting investigation is to determine the facts surrounding the incident. The agency does not decide whether an officer's actions were legally justified. That determination rests with the district attorney general who requested the investigation.

The identities of the officers involved have not been released by TBI. The agency says questions about the identities of officers involved in these cases are referred to the officers' respective department.

The City of Fairview has said aggravated assault charges were issued against the person involved in the incident.

A criminal charge is an allegation, not a finding of guilt.

Few additional details about those charges have been made publicly available.

As of Aug. 31, 2026, The Fairviewian had not reviewed the underlying charging affidavit or court filing describing the factual basis for the aggravated assault allegation.

Because of that, the specific conduct underlying the charge should be considered unresolved until additional records become publicly available.

The TBI's initial statement provides only a preliminary account of the shooting.

It does not identify the person who was shot, identify the officers who fired, say how many officers discharged their weapons, state how many rounds were fired, or provide a detailed reconstruction of the encounter.

The agency has also not released video of the incident.

Those unanswered questions are significant because the TBI investigation is still active, and its initial description should not be treated as a final determination of exactly what occurred.

For now, the official account establishes that Fairview officers responded to a possible domestic dispute, a vehicle moved in the direction of officers, multiple officers fired at the vehicle, and the driver was injured.

The circumstances immediately before and during the shooting remain under investigation.
