Fairview families are being encouraged to stay alert as law enforcement and school officials across Williamson County respond to a social media trend involving threatening or disturbing images of the Cat in the Hat character.

The trend has appeared in posts connected to schools and students, including content investigated elsewhere in Williamson County. In one recent case, the Williamson County Sheriff's Office investigated a TikTok account that included a list of names and the words "targets at school."

Authorities said that investigation did not uncover a credible threat to students, staff or schools. The Sheriff's Office also identified a person believed to be responsible for the account and said charges are being pursued.

While no specific threat to Fairview has been identified in the information released so far, the issue is relevant to families throughout the county because similar posts can spread quickly across social media and may reference schools or students by name.

The Tennessee Office of Homeland Security's Threat Assessment Center is also monitoring the trend statewide. State officials say some of the posts include unsettling AI-generated videos and images targeting Tennessee schools and students.

Fairview parents and guardians are encouraged to talk with children about responsible social media use and the consequences that can come with posting or sharing threatening content.

Anyone in Fairview who sees a social media post naming a local school, student, employee or other individual in a threatening way should report it to local law enforcement or through Tennessee's SafeTN reporting system rather than reposting or forwarding it.
